REMUS JOHN LUPIN
The name Remus is an allusion to the legendary twin founders of Rome, Remus and Romulus. As infants, they were cared for by a she-wolf named Lupa. J.K. Rowling has denied on her website that she got Lupin's name from this story however. His last name, Lupin, is derived from the Latin word, Lupus (wolf) and also, the English word, Lupine (characteristics of, or relating to wolves). In France, lupin is also a term that refers to a kind of werewolf (noted for its shyness). Interesting Fact The letters in the name can be rearranged to spell "Primus Lune", which is "Full Moon" in Latin. "Lupin" is also a type of plant (genus Lupinus). | |
